Magneto Key-Lock

My XLCH magneto is equipped with a key-lock but I know the tumblers have been drilled out previously and the lock is useless even if I had a key. Does anyone know if new locks can still be purchased and fitted? Would this be a job for a locksmith or a magneto repair shop? Is there a new lock kit available somewhere or would they be of little use in this day and age anyway. Does anyone have any thoughts or info?

Best regards,
Sporty69.

Patrick aka The French Owl is no stranger to magnetos and I am sure he will be along in a minute with the right answer.

But meantime here's a joint to keep in mind:

Buck is one of THE recognised experts (and you are having starting issues......... ;) ) and a very helpful guy. Tell him I sent you - he will sort you on any magneto issue. Nothing he does not know on them.

Re: Magneto Key-Lock

Well...I'm back!!!

Fairbanks-Morse used to buy their locks and keys from Chicago Lock, that's all I know... I was able to order some keys not that long ago from them, with 3 digit code stamped on barrel but god only knows where I've put the adress...

If you're that desperate, you can undo the lock from the body, fit any key inside it and ground the locking bits that stick up, hey presto, job done... The barrels are probably very std, the hard bit is the rest on the inside of the mag, bit of bakelite with spring and grounding ball...

I still think these mag locks are more peace of mind than effective... for better safety, set your mag on full advance when stopped, kick backs guaranteed for any other guy than yourself....!!!

Patrick
