shovelhead wiring harness

Hi, its time to wire the shovel from scratch, does any one know where i can buy a wiring harness? or has anyone tried these harnesses that are available from aftermarket catologes? Im looking at the simplest way to wire the bike up. Any advice welcome, thanks

Re: shovelhead wiring harness

Simplst method is to bin the lights and MOT for daytime use and then run with a magneto - probably not the answer you was looking for......

You might try ebay.com, but i bought my wiring harness (73 FLH) from W&W, had no probs, the colour coding etc matched perfectly. I was fastidious about routing, soldering, connecting, taping, still i get 'some minor' electrical probs, it's the nature of the vibrating beast. Good luck.

Re: shovelhead wiring harness

I suspect the EasyRiders book - which I also have in the garage - will show something almost identical to this:

alternator with points: http://www.network54.com/Forum/47850...Shovel+version...

The *simplest* wiring means running no indicators (not mandatory on pre-86 registrations), no electric start, You'd be amazed at how much wiring that set-up, which I have, removes! And of course, points is even simpler.

Couple of good links

and....this is so long it is almost overkill but it has some good stuff in it:
