| 1980 Xlh Came across this 2 weeks ago on ebay, had a punt at it,didn't make reserve. Owner got in touch said did I want it for what I had bid (£1800).Think I got it for a fair price, just had new MOT and tax, pictures flatter it a little,It's a tad scruffy but a good base I think for a restore or bobber project. Will post more pics as and when I make change Attachment 3328 Attachment 3329 Attachment 3330 Attachment 3331 |

| Re: 1980 Xlh wow....good score!!!! that was the first year of the butt-ugly XLCR frame going on all Ironheads. I would slap that in a hardtail frame for a truly fantastic look. But whatever you do, you have a classic there. Did you know that although the 1980 Ironheads did not come with a kickstart, but the cases are still machined to accept one. The very last year that is possible. So...give it a go!! |

1980 was better sorted , it had an oil filter and would accept any iron head header pipes. Forget about what Kiwi Dave said, the frame is a bloody good one as far as handling is concerned, my first harley was an 80XLS, once sorted properly it was brilliant, but amf quality control left a lot to be desired. When retro fitting parts, kickstart can be fitted easily as they just used frost plugs in the holes, but the rear mastercylinder will need to be relocated, 79 sprocket cover will work but you will have problems with the rear exhaust pipe more useful is to retro fit 79 p cams, they have a lot more power than the 1980 onwards q cams |

| Re: 1980 Xlh Sounds like a great buy to me. Probably about what it cost new. Think long and hard before going Kiwidave's hard tail route. If you want to ride any distance then the buggers are uncomfortable enough without a spine crunching hard tail.

the XLCR looks great in that frame which was inspired inspired by the XR750, and is a damn sight better looking than the XR1200 By the way my XLCR has a kickstart, something the factory forgot to fit, sprocket cover and the bits off the 79XLCH fit straight on |

the frame looked great when it was in the XLCR it was a great pity they could not sell them and had to hastily rework them into the 79 sporty to get rid of all the excess frames and bits |
