Shovel clutch

I have recently purchased a shovel, whilst going through it, i stripped the clutch down only to discover that the clutch retainer ( i am running a 30mm belt primary ) had melted to the inside clutch plate. Having removed the clutch retainer from the plate, the plate seems fine. I have ordered a new Ram Jet Retainer, but was wondering if i can degrease the clutch plates ( the old owner had overdone it with the grease on the roller bearings )enough to use them again, as they seem to be nearly brand new, and if so what with.

Re: Shovel clutch

Likewise, i have degreased my clutch plates many times. petrol is fine, or it is for me. remember to mark your plates before removing, so they go back in the same position, it's saves all that bedding in time.

Re: Shovel clutch

If the grease is really soaked in you can soak them in petrol and set light to them, I take no responsibility for your eyelashes though.

Thanks for the advice, they cleaned up well. Now the steel plates, they look quite shiny and seem somewhat glazed, can i salvage them or do i have to buy new ones, all help and advice appreciated.

Re: Shovel clutch

They will be fine. As long as they are flat and not blued you will be ok.
