Springer Forks and Kicker for Ironhead

I want to fit a set of springers to a 1980 xlh,are the neck bearings and axle 1"--3/4" ? Anyone recommend a source or have a set for sale?
Also, would a 1980 shovel kickstart assembly bolt straight on?

Many thanks in advance.

on the kicker, the 1980 is the last year the cases are machined for the kicker shaft to get into the primary, so you should be OK. But you may need a parts book to double-check you have everything.

You will need pre-79 brake parts. If I recall right, the master cylinder must be relocated.

Vincent, you could do worse than PM Kiwi (not Kiwi Dave) as he's well clued up on Ironheads of this era.

By "Kickstart assembly" do you mean the pedal or the whole gubbins? If its the latter then it's no, Ironhead shaft is different. You'll find genuine Ironhead bits easily on e-bay.

Re: Springer Forks and Kicker for Ironhead

79 or earlier sportster kickstart parts will fit no problem at all

the requistite holes in the cases were plugged in the factory and you just knock the plugs out

your biggest headache is the rear master cylinder, it will need to be relocated as it sits right where the kickstart shaft fits

79XLCH parts will fit straight on to relocate the master cylinder but you are left looking for the orphan year 79 rear exhaust pipe
