Anyone know a good wheel rebuilder???

Hi All

Im going to need a couple of 16 inch interchangeable wheels built from scratch with all new rims, spokes, hubs etc for one of my 45 projects. Anyone know someone who can do this well? Preferably Yorkshire area too?

Thanks

Karl

The best person I know is John Wheeldon but he's in Wiltshire.

Thanks hollandc and limey_dave.

Limey - yes its going to be all 45 Parts Depot stuff with the new needle roller hubs.

Those repair sleeve kits with needle rollers look good too for refurbing old interchangeables.

Thanks

Re: Anyone know a good wheel rebuilder???

I use a place called Cenral Wheel Comonents who are based in Coleshill, West Midlands (just off the M6). They built a 21" front wheel from just the original hub for my Ironhead chop and I am looking at a pair of wheels that I have just collected from them for a TriBsa project which are sat next to me in the spare room which look fantastic. Quite reasonably priced as well.

I have always used Alf Hagon, miles away from you, but been in the business since god was a boy, and what he don't know aint worth knowing.

if you do end up shipping it out of town, I would add a vote for Hagon's in East London, who did a great job on time at a great price a few years ago when I ran a 19in spoked wheel that needed freshening up.

Re: Anyone know a good wheel rebuilder???

The guy I used for rebuilding my stock rim and hub with stainless spokes loves rebuilding with Devon rims, he's a local guy working out of a shed and I found out about him from classic bike riders in the area. He raved about the quality of their rims and thought them far superior to anything else he has laced but if you go Devon be prepared to go on a defibulator!

Theer is a guy in Warrington who rebuilt a wheel for me a couple of years ago. Charged £1 per spoke and has been doing rebuilds for years.

Hate to say this but Hagon's ain't infallible. Howard Hall sent his 72 XLH front wheel off to them to be built after I'd subtly altered the original by having a front-end blowout; before Howard bought the bike I hasten to add!

They managed to crack the hub round several of the spoke-holes. AFAIK Howard's still awaiting a satisfactory response from them.
