Smile Volunteer Required! VMCC's Festival of 1,000 Bikes at Mallory Park

As most of you will be aware, we have run a Club stand at the VMCC's Festival of 1,000 Bikes at Mallory Park for the last two years.

I organised it myself in 2006; Fuz kindly deputised for me this year as it was the weekend before the Vintage Rally and I couldn't get the time off.

I was originally planning to return to the helm next year, but having given it some thought I have decided not to, for both work and practical reasons; I cannot afford the time off, and because of the distances involved it effectively makes it a four-dayer for us.

I am therefore asking for someone (or a couple of bodies) who would be willing to undertake this. Requirements are, to provide and man a stand in the "Avenue of Clubs" displaying members' bikes and promoting HDRCGB. Ideally there would be a good mixture of bikes, with the emphasis preferably on older iron of course, but a smattering of tidy newer ones as well.

The pitch for the stand is about 30ft x 20 ft, and is sited with an excellent view of the circuit, above the start/finish straight. We receive 18 FREE entry wristbands and 18 machine passes, together with two "contractors" passes for set-up/breakdown ie support van. This excludes any members/bikes who will be taking part in the track sessions, who receive seperate paddock passes and wristbands. Camping space is provided, and there is a bar and entertainment as well. You would need to be on site and set up Friday night, and it being a two-day event you'd be knocking off about 5pm Sunday. If any of you have done the BMF you'll know the score.

I am in possession of all the details for this; if any HDRCGB member is interested in taking it on, please do give me a call. It has been a worthwhile showcase for the Club, and in addition is a thoroughly enjoyable weekend with a difference.

Oops, nearly forgot.... dates are Saturday/Sunday 12th-13th July 2008.

if you want to know a bit more about the event, go to The Vintage Motor Cycle Club Limited

We really do need to keep our presence at this one, as it's growing into a very big event, and if we miss out we may well struggle to get back in.

Re: Volunteer Required!

This must be the quickest response yet, even by the standards on here!

Dave King has volunteered to co-ordinate and organise the event; I am most grateful to him.

We will be meeting up shortly to sort out the details.

If any others are interested in attending and helping out, please do get in touch. The only condition I will make is that you should be available for the full run of the event, nothing worse than trying to get things packed away when half the crew have to leave early.

Could be up it, just depends on other commitments - stupid question but is there an age requirement for the bikes on display ? oh yea, and any noise restrictions as some tracks aren't to keen on the more free flowing exhaust systems !

Read Kevs first post your question is anwered there.
Bikes to be run on the track have to be booked in via Patrick the Vintage
Secretary who should have the forms by now but they have to be back
with the VMCC by the end of January.
Me and owld Rod are willing to come along and help out Friday to Sunday

Re: Volunteer Required! VMCC's Festival of 1,000 Bikes at Mallory Park

The offers of help seem to be coming in faster than I can keep up with them so if no one has heard from me as yet rest assured you will do,,and thankyou.

Ill be checking with the VMCC on noise limits today, I cant see it will be a problem unless your actually on the track.

We've a few offers of newer bikes but what we really need at the moment is some vintage stuff 20s 30s and 40s,,,, so who should I be chasing ? :-)

Re: Volunteer Required! VMCC's Festival of 1,000 Bikes at Mallory Park

Just checked my info from VMCC on this years 1000 bikes.

Road bikes to be silenced to their appropiate period.

Saturday is Club / Road Bike track sessions road silenced machines only.

Sunday Morning is Road / Race Bike Track sessions.

Sunday arternoon is Racebikes.

Noise limit on Race Bikes = 105 DBs

If you pay for a track session (non Club) its £29 VMCC or £32 Non VMCC
on Sat

Sunday = same prices

Go to The Vintage Motor Cycle Club Limited ,maybe some more info on there.

I will be there from Friday evening, hopefully before they lock the gates this time (there are ways to break in ).
I can bring either a 1969 Generator Shovel or 1975 XLCH Iron Head Sporty.
See you there.
