Re: Harley Vin Number

Patrick

It was early morning and I hadn't dosed up with Marlboro and Lavazza.

I hadn't expected 5 digits on XLCH's that year. Is there an online listing of production numbers by model that you can point me to please as I want to check for my shovel.

Re: Harley Vin Number

No Boris, don't know any online listing of actual serial # for H-Ds...

here'e a very nice original 7000 miles 68 CH on ebay

See what I mean, 5000 CH made and this one's nearly 7000... If they were numbered together with the XLH, starting at 2001, that would be one of the last ones for that year, which I doubt!!!

Re: Harley Vin Number

Patrick / Chilly

Should have been clearer in my post, I meant production volumes by year for each model....specifically how many 1977 FXS Low riders were made, not the serial numbers....I don't believe it was a UK model until 1978, but limited edition US market only.

(apologies for going off subject)

Re: Harley Vin Number

That's what I read, Boris, no such records on the web as far as I know...

But my "top secret source" says 3742 FXS made in 1977...

Re: Harley Vin Number

Yep, seat bits cut off, so no wonder you can't read the year code!!!

Looks to me 68/69 XLCH frame. Have you got a battery carrier on the left of the oil tank? If yes, it's 70s, if no, 68 or 69. The factory started puting the ident rectangular boss on the right of the steering head around 68/69, without serial. 1st frame serials stamped there in 70, same code as engines.

Re: Harley Vin Number

I don't think there is a battery carrier but I will check. I would love to think I would/could restore this to it's former glory but It won't happen. As you have probably guessed from my username I also have a love of another type of 2 wheeled fun, which is taking up a lot of my time at the mo. If I were to sell the frame What do think it is worth and whats the best way to go about selling? My father in-law used to own a couple of HD's and is still in contact with a few of his old pals, so might try him as well.

Thanks

Steve
