Re: Harley Vin Number

A note of caution: Harley did not stamp its frames until model year 1970. In 1968, only engines were stamped. I wouldn't go expecting a fortune on eBay just yet....

Re: Harley Vin Number

Definitively stamped by a previous owner.

Photo would be welcome to date that frame. If front seat anchorage casting is still present, it has on its right hand side a coding for date of manufacturing, 1 letter/ 1 digit.

Re: Harley Vin Number

Thanks very much for all the responses, I can find a number around the seat area, they maybe and AA stamped in this area but i'm not sure. I have taken some pics and will try and attach to this thread.

Files are too big, not that great with IT is there any way of sending the pics another way?

Thanks again

Steve

Re: Harley Vin Number

To post pics see http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.c...-could-do.html

those numbers do not look like HD ones to me. I think 1968 numbers should begin 2, or 4, or 6 or 8. Also the number looks high, and for 5 digit numbers, the first 2 digits should be even numbers.

Re: Harley Vin Number

Frame year code, looks like this:

C for March, 9 for 1959

Boris, 10 is an even number!!! Sounds a bit high to me as well if it were an engine number, but production was getting quite high in the late 60s... If H-D are to be believed, 2000 XLH and 5000 XLCH made in 68... Total production around 27 000 in 68
