Re: Harrison Billet

Thank you for all the responses,

I really like the look of the Harrison brakes, they sort of fit the retro look of the early eighties shovel.

does the fact that the caliper is designed for a 13" disc preclude them from usage on a smaller disc say 11.5" or are these parts pretty generic when it comes to fitting once the plate has been created

thanks again

Andy

Re: Harrison Billet

It is the mounting plate that will determine what size disc to use them on.

Re: Harrison Billet

13" calipers will have the pistons on a different radius to 11.5" calipers, this will make a difference on 6 pot calipers but will not affect 4 pot calipers

also look at performance machine calipers - I have found them easier to bleed

I have a pair of 6-pot Billets with 13 inch discs on the front of my bike - they seem satisfactory!

Yes, 13 inch calipers may well be precluded from use on smaller discs. There are actually three pairs of small pads in each. On a smaller diameter disc the centre pair will be OK, but the other pairs may well partially miss the outer edge of the disc. It would be better to have a caliper and disc in the hand to check!

I bought a shovel new in the 1970s, with discs both ends. They were crap! In the wet it was not an uncommon experience to ride off the road to avoid a collision, as they offered no slowing worth a mention. Drums were far superior back then!
