New member - MOT enquiry

Hi
I'm new to the forum (couldn't see an newby introduction section) but not new to HD's or the HDRCGB - membership number something like 638.

I've just fitted an OEM 1972 internal throttle to my 1974 FLH, which has a CV carb without a return spring.

My question is: These older internal throttles were supposed to just stay put where you left them, and didn't self-return. How do owners of older Harleys get past the MOT requirement for the throttle to spring closed?

Al

the same way that owners of old brit bikes do its not actually tested the same way as long as it is returns to closed by way of rotating it, its fine, some may not even test it knowing its an older machine

Re: New member - MOT enquiry

That's never been tested on any of my bikes, or anybody that I know of.

I seem to think that the rules say something about no sticking throttle, but as yours is standard spec and could be argued that it doesn't stick I reckon you'd be pretty unlucky to fail on it.

I'd pick a tester who is familiar with older bikes.

The throttle return is not tested as part of an MOT.
the MOT only checks the cycle running gear, wheels brakes steering and bearings, horn and lights if fitted.

They'll only check the exhaust if the engines running.
