regestering a 58 pan from the states

Hi
I have done a brief intro over in the newbies section with a pic of my old 45. It was a few years ago now that we came over from New Zealand and she came with little or none of the correct paperwork. It was all sorted eventually.

Anyway I have managed to get hold of a bit of a dog of a pan from my brother in law in the states. There are many parts which would need to be replaced to even come close to being correct. My question is do I need an age related certificate even though I have the Pennsylvania title which has the VIN (engine) number and year of manufacture on it. I remember getting Patrick from here to do one for my 45 but that had no paperwork.

Thanks in advance for any replies. You can expect more questions now that I have joined. I never realised there was a vintage section so now I am here I look forward to meeting you lot and your bikes.
Cheers
Roger

Hello Roger and welcome to the site.

Have a look at the top of the Vintage page, there's a link to "Q plates and Age-related plates; this should give you all you need.

If you've actually joined HDRCGB, our Vintage Secretary, Patrick Delli (posts on here as The French Owl) can help you with the paperwork.

Good to have another Kiwi on board; dunno why but every one of your fellow countrymen in this club seems to be into older iron. Can't fault your taste!

no trouble at all to re register a bike in this country with a correct age related plate

you need registration documents from country it was last registered in

customs clearnace certificate

a valid mot

a valid insurance on the bike

fill out the form and send money and all original documents to DVLA - it takes a week or so and you have a new log book

DVLA have a habit of changing frame numbers, model numbers etc and / or losing documents so take a photo copy of everything and send it by recorded delivery

Once DVLA have corrupted your frame numbers and changed the model of your bike it can take several months of writing with copies of everything that they have Łu%&ed and need to amend they paperwork

Have imported 4 bikes and apart from DVLA making errors no problem at all

Good advice Graeme. Well worth sending stuff registered post as well if it's irreplacable documents; the Royal Snail are equally culpable. I'm lucky enough to live local so I take stuff in by hand if need be, as do most round here.
