Re: Mallory park festival of a thousand bikes 2009

Well done..it was a great weekend and nice meeting up with a few members, lots of people were commenting how good the club stand was. Ive attached a few photos from the track session..unfortunetly most are a bit blurry..i think a combination of a hangover and lots of speed (the bikes that is..lol!).

Great pics Mort. Some mouthwatering bikes. Thought I spotted the silver bike for a moment (complete with dents!).

Re: Mallory park festival of a thousand bikes 2009

A great weekend spoiled only by my spectacular wipeout as I came out of Devils Elbow on my arse

I had so looked forward to giving my bike a good run on the track that I think I got a little carried away (bit of an understatement!) - as we came around the hairpin on the first lap, the marshalls and the bikes ahead of me were all pulling away so I ripped it open and went through 3 gears in a few yards - Big Mistake! - I then realised I was going into Devils Elbow way too fast - it was pissing with rain, there was an abverse camber and as I tried to brake and turn, my back end was slipping out from under me.

I had to choose between dropping it on the track or going for the gravel - I chose the gravel.

I have to say that was one of the worst moments of my life as I ploughed through the gravel trap on my side then out over the grass and onto the pit lane where I eventually came to a stop.

The marshalls and medical team were fantastic as they took control, recovered the bike and gave me a full check up from head to toe.

Damage to me? A bruise on my elbow and a large dent in my pride

Damage to the bike? A lot worse, the front end was dragged round so hard that the stop was ripped off the triple tree and the tank was punctured, but its just nuts and bolts stuff that can be repaired - clutch lever, gear lever, twisted forks, bent bars, indicators, derby cover, petrol tank and rear belt pulley - all replaceable

Many thanks to all who helped after the event with well wishes and alcohol but paricularly Dave King who brought the bike back to the marquee and Vince and Yvonne who took me home in their van and wouldn't even accept a few quid for the diesel used.

Thank you.

Now I need to get on fleabay and start collecting parts to get it rebuilt for the 60th next month.

Mrs Kev wasn't impressed. Can someone let me know when Hell freezes over - apparently that's when I may be forgiven
