Hopefully that's all the damage Kev.

I had so looked forward to giving my bike a good run on the track that I think I got a little carried away (bit of an understatement!) - as we came around the hairpin on the first lap, the marshalls and the bikes ahead of me were all pulling away so I ripped it open and went through 3 gears in a few yards - Big Mistake! - I then realised I was going into Devils Elbow way too fast - it was pissing with rain, there was an abverse camber and as I tried to brake and turn, my back end was slipping out from under me.

I had to choose between dropping it on the track or going for the gravel - I chose the gravel.

I have to say that was one of the worst moments of my life as I ploughed through the gravel trap on my side then out over the grass and onto the pit lane where I eventually came to a stop.

The marshalls and medical team were fantastic as they took control, recovered the bike and gave me a full check up from head to toe.

Damage to me? A bruise on my elbow and a large dent in my pride

Damage to the bike? A lot worse, the front end was dragged round so hard that the stop was ripped off the triple tree and the tank was punctured, but its just nuts and bolts stuff that can be repaired - clutch lever, gear lever, twisted forks, bent bars, indicators, derby cover, petrol tank and rear belt pulley - all replaceable

Many thanks to all who helped after the event with well wishes and alcohol but paricularly Dave King who brought the bike back to the marquee and Vince and Yvonne who took me home in their van and wouldn't even accept a few quid for the diesel used.

Thank you.

Now I need to get on fleabay and start collecting parts to get it rebuilt for the 60th next month.

Mrs Kev wasn't impressed. Can someone let me know when Hell freezes over - apparently that's when I may be forgiven
Sorry to hear what happened, at least your in one piece, and the bike can be fixed, The missus will get over it

Thanks Dave for the organisation. Another good one.

Vince, Yvonne, The bar idea was brilliant. Looked great and pulled people in like a magnet.

See you all at Walesby.

Re: Mallory park festival of a thousand bikes 2009

A brilliant weekend. Eveyone pitched in, worked hard and really did the Club proud.

We met a lot of old friends, made a lot of new ones, and to cap it all the Club won the "Best Stand" trophy.

Special mention must go to;
  • Dave King, who organised it all.
  • Vince and Yvonne for the "bar".
  • Kiwi for the barbie.
  • Chris, Naseby Field Rep, for lending us banners and getting us out of a big hole.
  • And finally, Big Kev for the impromptu stunt show; glad you're OK mate!

Re: Mallory park festival of a thousand bikes 2009

What a great weekend , Thanks go to ALL who made it happen , a real team effort.
To win the "best stand trophy" out of 40 odd other club stands was reward for everyones work.
It was an honour for me to recieve the trophy on behalf of the club from the VMCC president Colin Seaton. ( I shall have to strengthen me mantlepiece to take the weight of it...)
Worth more than the trophy was the look on the Guzzi OC lads faces when they realised our bar and fridge had outdone their fancy carpet and chain link fence...
Plans and ideas already for improvements for next year.

Lastly a huge debt of grattitude is owed from everyone in the club
to Dave King , whose stoic tenacity behind the scenes made the stand happen at all...Thanks Dave..
Mallory 2010...bring it on.

Re: Mallory park festival of a thousand bikes 2009

Thanks to every one that came along, in particular Vince and Yvonne without whom we would not have come away with the AWARD FOR BEST STAND.

Sam Brown from the VMCC who has been an absolute angel (and probably still is) Annie with her constant charm and wit. And James Hewing ofcourse, who I notice didnt come round the track with us.

People not to thank, Fuz for not stopping me after the first bottle of JD
