[quote=chilly;632070]Thanks for that Tibbs, yes mate, thats what i'm gonna put on her, they've worked so well on other older bikes iv'e seen that it must be worth a go on mine.

Hows the Apprentice Turner getting on

It's coming along slowly, I need to get my tool holder machined down a few millimetres so she's dead centre.
It's fun though when it runs smoothly.

'Tis not much more complex! Should have two adjustable screws on the top; if not, get the modification kit and do it. Easily available after-market and makes a huge difference.

Bendix carbs don't ail for much, as I said above; one thing that is critical, though, is correct float height. Too low and she'll starve on hard acceleration, too high and fuel will seep through the unsealed join between body and float bowl. Best set to run slightly rich for good all-round performance; I still get around 60 mpg out of mine. In-line fuel filter isn't a bad idea either but do ensure that it doesn't restrict the flow.

Re: The Sporty lives and breaths

Hello there,

Glad to see you got your starting problems sorted. I have a 1977 Sportster that I have recently recomissioned and found that about 500-750 miles of riding the starting problems came back which proved to be valve recession. Resetting the valve clearances cured it and has been good ever since.

Regards

Charlie
