The Sporty lives and breaths

Just got the this ole bugger fired up today after a fair bit of re- commissioning,(well my lad did the kicking ),sounds great, a lot better than some supposedly nice ones i looked at did.
Bit of a pig in a poke purchase at the time but seems to be ok,very responsive on the throttle
Haven't ridden it yet as its not MOTd or registered,but were getting nearer to getting it on the road.
I reckon i'll have to take me Son out with me incase it stalls,don't think me footballers knee is gonna like starting this un
Bloody fuel tank is full of holes along the tunnel,i think this is due to wet sand put in there as a fire precaution when it was on display in a night club a good few years back which is a shame,so i have my sons black one on at the moment so i can get it MOTd.

If anyone has a 70s fuel tank for sale i could be interested

Just so happens I have a tank to fit your bike. Its down to bare metal pending a respray and a small amount of filler. It will need fuel cap and tap but I reckon you have them allready off your old tank. Get back to me if you are interested. bazzreid@tiscali.co.uk or tel 07739106261

Re: The Sporty lives and breaths

Tip for starting it Chilly; stand alongside it, NEVER stand astride an Ironhead to kick it up, it hurts! Junk that pedal too, lollipop type's easier on your instep.

If you're doing a repaint to original (you did say it's a 72 didn't you?) here's what it should look like;

Paintwork by Ron Bull BTW, highly recommended.

When Matt rebuilt the top end of mine he fitted 8:1 pistons, which lowered the comp enough to make starting easier but didn't affect the performance too much; Baz Reid will testify to this as he's tried to catch the brute before!

Thanks for the pic Kev,not sure yet which way i'm going with the paint ,but that certainly looks a very nice job.
Might leave it as it is just need to get me ole flares and cubans out the cupboard and we're a cooking

As for kicking the bike over ,old habits die hard mate

Fired her up ok,but she wasn't having none of it after she stopped, a good fitness trainer tho

Need a nice CV carb to make her happy me thinks

What's on her at the moment? I had a Keihin on mine when I first got it, right POS it was too with more flat spots than Twiggy! Bunged a Bendix on it ( the modified type with the adjustable jet) and it's fine now. A lot of people slate the Bendix carb, but if set up properly they're fine.
