Re: shovel oil tank fittings ( can open, worms everywhere )

Weird. Never seen that before. On that tank you would have from stock the vent and return on top, the feed line hooked up underneath. A gravity-inspired set-up.

I wouldn't know what to do with the tank you have shown us! Maybe someone had venting issues once and went for overkill ? ? ?

That looks very different to mine, the same basic shape but lots more connectors on top.

This is a pic of mine, you should be able to just see the standard connecters on top.

but i think that the primary may have already been isolated as there is no line coming out of the primary case and the primary feed and return have been looped into the fourth pipe does that sound feasable?, this might also explain the leaky primary as well if there is oil in there too lube the primary chain?
Sounds like it. Where is the leak in the primary? Is it coming through between the inner and outer cases or at the front where it supposed to seal against the crank?

Cheers,
Rob.

the leak was between the inner and outer case on the gasket at the clutch end of the primary, now looking at jakaroos shovel site there is mention of needing a wet clutch with an isolated primary, so next question how do i know if it is?

You probably don't. Most people have no problems with a sealed primary running ATF. Just a splash, enough to reach the bottom of the clutch basket when the bike is upright.

If the clutch isn't slipping then there is no problem.

With the leak, I'm rebuilding mine with James gaskets and I have one with the primary that looks like it should seal properly, it might be worth giving one of those a try.

Is the primary still vented? Whover sealed it off didn't block up all the connectors did they?

Cheers,
Rob.
