| Ironhead back brake pics
Hi guys I have got a 78 Ironhead (left side shifter) which was hardtailed a few years ago and forward controls fitted. I fitted the forwards but got a pro to weld on the hardtail & set up the back brake for the forwards. I want to put the bike back to mid mounts and have got all of old the bits but I can't remember how the back brake is set up on the wheel ie actuating lever top or bottom & cable to hub top or bottom). I have looked in the Haynes manual but there is nothing in there so I wondered if anyone had a similar aged standard bike who could do me a couple of pics of the back wheel set up or if anyone has any pics of standard bikes that they can post up. I realise that the cable will need modding as the hardtail adds about 6" to the length of the bike so the standard cable will be too short. Appreciate any help. Cheers Steve |

I have a 1978xlh, surprisingly! I will sort you out some pics. The brake is made of some sort of cheese, or other non-brake material, so it doesn't work very well; you would be better to fit a disc. Andrew |

If you want to improve the braking, try this guy, recommended by Patrick; Classic Brakes Services Address:PO Box 5 Whaley Bridge High Peak Derbyshire SK23 7LL Contact:Ian Campbell Telephone:01663 732025 I understand he used to work for Ferodo and has now set up on his own.
