frames

just a quick question now my shovel frame(1975) where the seat fits the frame tubes seem to level out ( almost parallel with the ground ) but on a shovel that i recently saw on ebay ( seller was in witney there was no paperwork and it was sold before i got to have a look ) the seat tubes seemed to follow the lines of the top tube giving im guessing a lower seat and rear mudgaurd much snugger to the rear wheel, now is this an earlier frame? a different model frame? or possibly a custom hacked frame?

Re: frames

Hi; if you mean the frame kicks up about an inch for the mudguard mounts where the rear downtubes are then it's an early frame, my '64 Pan is like that. Not sure but I think from '65 on the frame was like the later shovel 'cos of the extra room needed for the electric start; earlier frames looked neater though (IMHO).
Cheers,
Pete

Re: frames

This is a '63 converted to electric start and fitted with '65 on oil tank.
'65 = Pan,'66 on =Shovell.
On '65 on frame the top tube is horizontal and the tank sits level.

Re: frames

Hi Will
I just had a look at the frame on the one on ebay and it looks like a standard Electraglide frame (with the turned up seat rails to clear the battery) I have a Duoglide frame (Drop seat) which is like the red one above and they are much better looking. I want to use the frame but at the moment it has a badly raked headstock and it needs cutting out and replacing, so maybe next winter my shovel will get a proper makeover if I can get a replacement headstock casting (forging).
Cheers Graham.
Below is my old Harley as it arrived from the states back in 88, the frame is the one in my loft you can see the seat rails carry on in a line from the headstock and then the shock mounts kick up.
