Re: My Project

latest update

Mission accomplished

Age related plate Docs arrived this morn phew!

Scottish origin three letters on reg rather apt "XUS"

Now to get the plate, need to find somewhere local for silver on black, as now plate vendor has to see original doc`s, no copys allowed any more!
(was able to e-mail a scan 6 mths ago) but DVLA police have nipped that in the bud now.

Easy to paint a diy job, or maybe still get a showplate but..
Now it seems you still need to get an official plate made to action the certificate (V948) issued, as it only has a life of six weeks validity & "No duplicates will be issued"

all this maybe common knowledge, but thought i`d mention it

Re: My Project

Have they got this down as first registration?
If so,might you need a yellow one to get on the road and for MOT's.

Re: My Project

How's about getting a normal yellow and black plate to satisfy the bureaucrats and then fit a second black and white 'show plate' for road use? I used craigsplates on t'internet for show plate, no requirement for docs, but you do have to un-peel the 'show plate only' sticker!

Re: My Project

No wording " first registration" or mention of yellow plate req`d anywhere
Receipt for registration only has "V55/2-5 Historic" which is the tax class also.

Got me doubting there ,Dave
I understood the age related plate thing was partly to allow issue on a traditional black/white black/silver plate legally, in keeping with the age of the vehicle.
"vehicles constructed before 1.1.73 may display black/white plates..."
ref V796

although post 1.9.2001 character sizes apply, so my take is 6 character m/c plate minimum size /legal is 7.5"x 6.5"

could be wrong tho, lol

Re: My Project

Best bet is get a modern legal plate, get it registered, then use said plate as a table-mat or something similar, cos you won't need it again!

With bikes your age you can get away with almost anything, even a hand-painted one on the rear fender. I've yet to know an MOT station that's disallowed a plate on a vintage bike.
