want to put Mikuni on shovel

Hi all,
I need some help on this. I have a 1978 shovelhead FLH,but I want to update the old carb to a newer carb, like a Mikuni carb. What size etc and the items I would need.
Someone must have done this on their glide.
cheers Andy. tool man.. M/no2983.

Re: want to put Mikuni on shovel

Recommended Mikuni is a HS40 but a HSR42 would do the job nicely.

Re: want to put Mikuni on shovel

I ran a hs40 on a 82 shovel

excellent carb and hard to fault, good response, excellent power and still possible to get 50mpg

only thing I didn't like was the hub cap styled aircleaner that came with the mikuni, which I changed for an s&s aircleaner

Andy, try these people;

Allens Performance Mikuni & Keihin Carbs

Highly recommended; the late Phil Allen, who founded the company, was a good mate of mine.

Re: want to put Mikuni on shovel

no need for a debate

the CV is a good carb that can be picked up easily for very little money, however if you can find a mikuni at the right price................
