| Re: Advice on finding a WLA 45
see posts above. Seems to be some question as to quite what was originally verified by VMCC. Wouldn't happen under present system, for various reasons. see also previous comments about 'ringing' bikes using an un-numbered chassis. Quite a common practice at one time; Ray Leon used to register bikes built around various chassis using NOS 45 engines as 'Harley Davidsons' , my original 1970s Ariel-framed 45 was so registered. 70s choppers with frame moulding sometimes concealed 'dud' frame numbers under the 'pon; old-style buff logbooks were rarely updated with changes to colour or engine numbers, because people very rarely checked.. this caused a whole range of problems with Tritons and so on when V5s were introduced. those front rockers, well yes I thought that. Looks as though there is a discrepancy in the assembly of the forks; maybe the front legs or springs are a mismatched set, or maybe it's a bodged attempt at the down-turned rockers sometimes seen on 70s bikes to counteract the deleterious effects of excessive rake or just look 'kewl'; probably by assembling the rockers upside-down on the wrong legs..
