Help noisy sporty.

Hi guys.
Does anyone possess or can point me in the direction of a set of pipes for a '79 ironhead, as mine have rotted thro'. The bike is a bit of a rat and is my winter hack. As such,I don't want to pay dealer prices.Second hand would be fine. I have fairly good mufflers, so only need the headers.'79 is the "bastard year", so need to be right. Any leads greaty appreciated.

You could always try one of the Independants who offer a club discount for a price

http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.c...t-headers.html

don't know if these are still available but it looks like they didnt sell..might be worth sending the seller a message? Although the advert states them as from a xlcr 78' it looks like they are more probably off a standard 79' with the siamese headers..worth a try?

It could also be possible to get 2nd hand later cover (1980 up) so that you can move the master cylinder. More choice would then await. A dearer option probably I realise though.

Re: Help noisy sporty.

The 1980 sprocket cover is different to any other year sportster and is unavailable on the aftermarket- used to own a 1980 and have never seen a sprocket cover for this model available new or second hand

81 onwards do not have the cutout for the starter motor

79 header pipes always turn up for sale and whilst different are good for a few extra hp as they work far better than the staggered pipes - sometimes teh factory actually get it right

for my money I would source a set of the original pipes
