Teflon thread sealant /Anti -Seize?

After watching the Fixmyhog DVD, they seem to put teflon thread sealant on quite a few of the bolts,anti-seize on others (and spark plugs). Mind you ,they also use compressed air to remove road dirt/debris etc, which I suppose most home mechanics dont bother with.

Is the sealant and anti-seize necessary or are they just showing how it is done by the book?
Tried to buy some today.Nobody seemed to know what I was on about.

I use P.T.F.E. tape as a thread sealant, its gas ,water & oil resistant. Works real good & is easy to disassemble should you need to. Only 20p a roll from your local plumbers merchant!
good old copper grease is the best anti seize i've found.

I'll second the copper grease.

My bike lives outside so is prone to corrosion, I tend to copper grease most everything as a matter of course.
Copper grease or blue locktite where fasteners are semi-critical, the locktite stops things seizing also.

Get the grease from halfords, get a tub and not a tube or you'll get your butt ripped.

I've yet to find liquid teflon anywhere, heard of it mentioned quite a lot in the states.

Copper grease or blue loctite depending on what you're tightening. If it's critical to safety always use a threadlock unless otherwise specified in the manual. Copper grease on things prone to sieze: Exhaust manifold bolts, wheel axles and steering head nuts for example.

Supposed to be a modern equivalent of ptfe tape.

PS cant see how much that stuff costs, click on "click& buy" and it takes you to a blank page BUT I would imagine a 5Kg pack may be overkill

Hi guys, Wurth do a product that might be what you are looking for. It's called PIPE SEAL, part No. 0893 577 050

It's a liquid, a bit like loctite and i use it sometimes instead of the PTFE tape.

I spoke to a guy on another forum, in America.
He works for Chrysler and told me that they do a similar product .
Phoned up a Chrysler dealer to order it this morning, not sure how long it will take though .

Chrysler Teflon . Part # 4318044 ,though the guy at the dealer says it has changed to Part # 04318034
