All Year Round Biking

Just found this US website dedicated to 'dedicated' bikers. Seems to be BMW dominated, but no worse for that.
The Rounders are men and women who enjoy their motorcycles so much they ride them year round. The group was founded by a bunch of Mid-Westerners (inspired by a Kook on the East Coast) who ride them even when the temps are freezing and below. The object of becoming a Rounder is to have fun, promote safe, responsible motorcycle use on a regular basis for as much of the year as you can. In the spirit of fun we have concocted the following levels of Rounderhood which is based on riding a minimum of ten miles at the following Fahrenheit temp scale:
  • 60's -Jr. Rounder (Just Riding)
  • 50's - LOTF Rounder (Looking Over The Fence)
  • 40's - FOTF Rounder (Fringe of the Fringe)
  • 30's - Half Rounder
  • 20's - TQ Rounder (Three Quarts)
  • 0-20 - Rounder
  • Sub Zero - KHOF Rounder (Kook Hall of Fame)
Members can proclaim themselves to be in the various categories based on the truthful telling of their riding conditions. If you lie, then a pox be upon you and may your valves need constant adjustment.

They have a forum with 359 registered members and their own clothing line (sweats etc.) Respect to 'em all!

Re: All Year Round Biking

I remember laughing at my peers, when I was tearing about on the first 100 mph Suzuki 250 X7,ice forming in the creases of my Grattan catalogue leather biker jacket and wet levi's,cool or what!

I bet a few of us have been there and are paying for it now!!

I know I am

You talking about the aching joints, shoulders that hurt like buggery and co-codamol 30-500's one takes just before riding off in the mornings, then yes, count me a non-member, member of that club LOLOL.

Re: All Year Round Biking

Between the age of 16 to 26, a bike was my only means of transport. I even went on my honeymoon by bike. This meant many journeys in the kind of weather that, nowadays, I would consider totally unacceptable to be biking in! Winter riding in the 1970s seemed to involve freezing fog most of the time.

I spent what little money I had on the bike, which left no budget for clothing. My first 'biker jacket' was a slip on yachting cagoule.

My self-taught technique for warming up on hypothermic days was to go to the motorway service area toilets, plunge my freezing hands into a bowl of hot water (yes, it hurts) then finish them off under the hot air dryer. The final act was to blow hot air down into the gloves in an attempt to warm and dry them for the next onslaught. Yes, I admit it, I have become a wooss as I have got older!

I never wanna do that again!

Well done Bexx, a true Biker

Put me in with Ming, I used to ride to work, play and everthing else because that was my only means of transport for many years ....but now that I don't have to I would not wish to ride in the freezing cold anymore too much arthritis these days ...and have been living for too many years in the sun to wish to go back to the cold
