Question Insurance

I've just had my renewal from Bennetts, £368, fully comp, with £500 excess but unlimited mileage.
Seemed a bit on the expensive side.

I've rang carole Nash and got a quote of £310, fully comp, with £300 excess with breakdown cover, but annual mileage of 6000 miles.

Anybody have any ideas?

Re: Insurance

Interesting the way mileage is calculated into the equation over there. Do you do over 6,000 miles? Wouldn't be enough for me.

Re: Insurance

If the 6k is not enough for you ring Carol Nash with the milage you want
cover for. I don't think more milage will make much differance to your
premium.

Re: Insurance

Start off with the 6k and then, if and when you are getting close to it ring them up to increase. The extra will only then be for part of the year that is left on your policy.

I am with Carole Nash and for me the price did not alter from 6k to 10k. Plus no extra telling them that I had a SP 30 (Speeding ticket) on my licence.

They use loads of different companies so where as a lot of us are with CN we may also be with different Insurance Companies.

The breakdown cover is very good and includes Europe and they cover you for two bikes. So if you have not got a second bike tell the missus that you now need one because your insurance covers it....;)

Re: Insurance

I'm still with the "official" HD insurers (used to quote through Boncaster but I think the name has changed now).

I have some sort of restricted mileage on the HD of around the 8K mark but unlimited mileage on other bikes and way cheaper than anyone else I've found on multi-bike policies.

As I currently own three bikes and one of them is about 16K a year this really works well for me

Re: Insurance

I went with HD last year and was offered a limit of 5k to try and keep the premium down. I took it as I figured it would be plenty as I'd only done that over the previous 2 years on the Yamaha

Needless to say, it wasn't enough - I had to phone them to increase the limit after about 4 months because I could see me going past 5k before the summer started. Cost to go to unlimited mileage? £10 - it wasn't worth opting for the restriction in the first place, but I guess they knew I was phoning around for a competitive quote.

Re: Insurance

Got to sort my insurance out in the next few days.
Have been with Carole Nash for a few years.
Quote for Softail Deuce is £322 with protected No Claims 5000 miles /year £300 excess.
Quote for Harley and Duke is £386 again with protected No Claims but Duke excess is only £225

Harley Insurance quoted £323 for Deuce

Have not come close to 5000 miles /year on the Ducati but this may be different on the Harley.

Barrie, check whether they are covering you for riding to work - especially if you occasionally have to ride the bike to different places of work. I couldn't get ocverage from them for precisely that reason.

Hoggies obviously don't commute on their bikes.....

Cheers
