Re: British Beat

Hawkeye:The reason why so many people buy the H-D's and Triumph's of today are mainly because they are "retro". Look at BMW's, they are still making a bike that was designed 70 odd years ago at least! If you get a good design, why change it? It's like the old adaage- if it ain't broke, don't fix it! Take the V-Rod, it's a great bike mechanically, but it ain't the same as the traditional looking Harleys. Just because a bike is not all flash and umpteen pots, doesn't mean its bad. I love flat-twins, v-twins and parallel- twins, I had a across-the-frame jap four, all revs and high-pitched vibration! I prefer my V-twin Sportster, it may look archaic, but it has bags of torque, enough power for what I want and it looks good, it is a great touring bike and economical. It has vibration but perhaps that's part of the charm, who wants a"nanny" bike, it's bad enough with the "nanny" state that's been foisted on us!
