Spec Wearers

I'm off to get my eyes tested on Wednesday & I reckon I need some specs for distance vision. I can still read a number plate at the required distance but I still feel I need some glasses to help my vision a bit. They get very tired working on a computer all day and my vision gets a bit blurred later in the day.

Anyway,...............

What do you fellow spec wearers do for bike riding

Do you wear specs & a full face helmet, wear contacts with an open face helmet, wear your specs with big goggles over the top or have any of you got prescription bike riding shades / goggles ? Or do you just ride blind

Kendo

Re: Spec Wearers

hi kendo, i wear glasses and use a full face helmet. its a real pain in the ass in cold weather as my visor doesnt quite work as well as it should, if i close it all the way down it fogs up and if i open it just a litlle my glasses get covered in water!
didnt really have a prob with my old lid, just used to put a bit of anti fog on the visor and the glasses and it worked fine. i thought about contacts and may get them in the summer just for the fact that i can wear shades over the top. just make sure you try your lid on with your glasses when buying them as they might not fit properly.

Re: Spec Wearers

I have varifocals for reading and distance, I can't read a number plate without them but as I said to the optician as long as I can see the fecking car that's what I'm interested in. I ride blind during the day with shades and an open face

I am thinking about getting a Roof Boxer helmet that acts as full face and open. Then I could use my glasses as and when I like because there is a visor and also a full face that slides to the back of the helmet.

Re: Spec Wearers

I have a full face and prescription shades....I always ride with the visor open or I fog up The biggest problem for me, and I don't know if anyone else has the same, if I am on the Harley and go above 55-60 mph my glasses vibrate so much I can't see . I rode out on Saturday and rode on a NEW bypass (well new-ish) and because the road surface was smooth and had not been patched, there wasn't the problem.

Re: Spec Wearers

I wear glasses and have open helm Not a problem with the wind , but I've also a big screen in front of me

But when I was on the bike without the screen I don't have any problem
Dave

So get your glasses mate and you can see the police write you ticket

Re: Spec Wearers

I have "react-o-lite" specs, and wear either open or full, depending on conditions.Don't have a fogging problem on the Full cos I always treat the visor with washing up liquid.

I get the "shaking specs" syndrome as well, but only on the Harley ..on the Honda there's no problem...I think its the vib's of the Harley that make it happen..I have bought some better handlebars bushes (but not fitted yet)and will also try shortening the width of the bars to try to change the frequency higher up the range.

on reading this, another cause could be the wind buffetting..On the Honda the half fairing sems to divert the blast, but I still can't get a screen for the Harley that looks small but comes up high enough to be of use.

I had a Roof Boxer that has now been consigned to the bin.
Alright when in open face mode but when in full face mode the wind noise
is unbelievable.

Re: Spec Wearers

These look okay on the Davida website;

They have inserts for you spec lenses. They supply you with a lens template for your optician.

Re: Spec Wearers

I have recently changed over from specs to contacts and it's one of the best things I have done. Specs were such a pain in the arse with fogging up and being unable to wear whatever shades I wanted to. Peripheral vision is also now much improved.

I tried contacts a few years ago with limited success, but now they are so much better and convenient.

Cheers.
