Pyrenees Road Trip

I'm planning a Tour for my Military Club to Spain/Portugal in Aug/Sep this year (sadly it looks like I won't be able to attend - reason mentioned whilst stumbling around the Beer Tent) and was after suggestions for getting back across the Pyrenees into France with a view of making our way back to Calais.
Anyone got any experience/suggestions
Currently the route is coming back from Pamplona towards Mont-de-Marsan (or sommat like that).

Re: Pyrenees Road Trip

The road from Pampolana over that section of the pyreness through to St jean in France is more of a rolling hills road very nice riding but
not spectuler mountain riding. From St jean to Mont de Marsan
you are on the big flat Bordeux plain with very little to see.
we took that route when we went to Portugal a couple of years ago.

For something a bit more spectular go over the 136-934-918
over the Col de Tourmalet 2114 metre and round to Tarbes calling at Lourdes if you are that way inclined.

Re: Pyrenees Road Trip

Cheers M8, thanks for that.
Baza, I can't get your link to work...but message received, thanks .
I've been using Autoroute Express, but that is no substitute for personal experiences.
Cheers.

Hi Snowflake,

What you are saying as regards the trip is very vague as Spain/ Portugal/Pyrenees, is one hell of a distance in total different directions.

Where /which way would you like to start, and how would you like to return

I live in Spain and have travelled and worked all over for the last 20yrs, and it is a vast country ;)

If you give me some ideas of th above then I can no doubt help you.

If you like just pm me with your ideas, and I will see what I can do for you, also whether you wan't camp sites etc ;)

Re: Pyrenees Road Trip

I've done

Portsmouth - St Malo
West coast of France
French Pyrenees
Down to Barca
Spanish Pyrenees
Home again via St Malo

I can probably dig my route out.

Biggest tip from is keep a really close eye on the weather - we were nearly washed away in the French Pyrenees - quite literally!

Absolutely the worst riding weather I've ever encountered and I got a puncture from a piece of flint washed down the mountains

Molan

Was that the year when a large camp site was washed away down a mountainside, cause that was the worst one they have ever had

Weather can change very rapidly up there as you say, but still very picture skewy;)
