this is the last year for carbs on H-Ds

A dealership employee in the states (not Phil! ) reports on the net this week that his shop got a memo from Milwaukee saying that *ALL* Harley-Davidson motorcycles from model year 2007 willl be fuel injected.

The carb is finished.

Can anyone confirm?

I don't know if you ever read 'American Iron' but they have been running articles about the crack-down on bikes from the EPA - very scary. I bet it's due to that if it's true.

Lynne.

Rumour only, it could well be true, but there is no firm statement from HD to confirm that. I asked.

On Bikernews.net a guy posted simlar last week re no carb Harleys and updated with the following yesterday..................

"you can still get carbureted Sportsters in '07, but they too will be phased out in '08. I'm getting word that the EPA is pushing hard for legislation that will ban all air-cooled engines in the future. The 60 degree liquid-cooled V-rod engine may one day be Harley's standard."

Loosing the potato, potato will be a shame but water cooling will actually be better, just hope they can hide the rad a bit better than the others.

The EPA will not ban air cooled engines, however tightening restrictions make it harder for manufacturers to meet standards with air cooling.
The big push from HD at least on this side of the pond is noise restriction, they are being pushed very hard by the Federal Govt to work on the `loud pipes` issue & to educate their dealers.
So far here in California everything is still `loud` (at least on my bike anyway). I fear a clampdown on present legislation is just over the horizon though.

They need to see the rad as a styling challenge, and not as a necessary evil. When they do this, I'm confident we'll see progress. As for the potato, potato, I may have more to say on this.
