Re: Some older Harleys + spares in a Ledbury auction

The same as Ming but different KD

Be an interesting project mate,i was going to do that a good few years ago,i had a Triton and always fancied doing that with it, but got sidetracked with another Brit special.
A yank used to race one a good few years back but i'm buggered if i can remember his name,i know he used to do all right on the Brit circuits and it was fairly reliable as he had the engine built to moderate race spec ,so that it wasn't to stressed because of the availability of spares,i'm sure Kev or Patrick or one of the young whipper snappers of that era will know more about that than i do tho.
Good luck with it and keep us posted mate, maybe able to help with the Norton rolling chassis part of the project if your stuck,ie - good places for spares, new or second hand etc.

Chill ;)

Re: Some older Harleys + spares in a Ledbury auction

Disappointing day at Ledbury sales, only went for the HD's and parts, there was around 4-5 boxs of chrome goodies (showing signs of the dreaded metal moth, dents or rust) Nothing I could use. Boxes went for 20-30 quid each.

Me and the missus had a well nice breakfast in a cafe and that was the best part of the day.

206 Mz Simson moped, 49cc. D Reg £85 Yuk
216 1961 Triumph Sports Cub T20s motorcycle, fitted with Villiers 2T 248cc twin engine, alloy wheels £700 Nice

218 1962 BSA B40 motorcycle, 348cc, GVS766 V5C, non transferable, T & T 08/06 £820 OK if your into leg breakers

262 1991 Harley Davidson motorcycle, 1340cc, Imported, declared manufactured 1979, V5C, FGT154T £2200 Tatty once again Engine numbers didn't tie up with year of manufacture.
263 Harley Davidson engine £1000 Shovel motor, Twin plugged, No Carb or Alternator, Push rod tubes rusty, otherwise looked is reasonable nick, what it was like inside only the buyer will know for sure.

Re: Some older Harleys + spares in a Ledbury auction

you're right about the Yam 750, Dave; VERY rare over here and that WAS a bargain. Nothing like the XS650, they were if anything over-balanced and consequently not very powerful, but allegedly a very civilised parallel twin. Similar in concept to the late 70's Z750 Kwack twins if anyone remembers them.

I remember them, dropped from the market place after only 3 months

They had a polished rocker cover, great for heat dissipation

One was entered in the austrailian 6 hour race for production bikes, it seized

Them had balance weights driven by chains with no chain adjuster

Factory did some out with an oil cooler kit and a omni phase chain adjuster kit after the event

Motors were advertised in chopper magazines for $us300 each as chopper engines, yamaha removed from the engine casings and no mention of yamaha in the adverts

Not one of Yamaha's better efforts

Re: Some older Harleys + spares in a Ledbury auction

Chiefy,

I had a couple of the tiger cubs as well, which I bought in about 1970 in boxes and then re-built them from what I remember they had some problems with the oil distribution ... but pretty little bikes, ideal for women to play around on ;)

Re: Some older Harleys + spares in a Ledbury auction

I had a Triumph Terrier in the very early 60s,the 150cc forerunner of the Cub,i reckon i pushed it further than i rode it,but then i always had the throttle on the stop when it was going,a steep learning curve for me on the fragility of small bike engines and crap electrics against my want for speed.
