Yep I too have had a BMW with heated grips on an unfaired bike i.e. hands exposed to the wind. The grips alone are not that good as the outside and tips of your fingers and thumbs still get cold, they work best with thin gloves, obvious really as the heat has to get through the glove. Take your hands out the wind and they are brillient, screen or GS/trial bike hand guards, you can then wear thin gloves all year round. The problem I have had over the years with winter gloves is they are either far too bulky or not that warm and you hands will still eventually get cold no matter how good they are. I've tried heated gloves too, they worked to a degree but were bulky and uncomfortable. The problem is anything much over 20 miles and you hands will get cold even with the best gloves and heated grips if they are exposed to the wind, how do I know? My F'in journey to work is 25 miles! Get your hands out the wind will make a the biggest differance, a screen, handle bar covers etc. if you can live with it these will also keep the rain off too! Fashion or function is the question! |

hi lollypop here, right i have had two other bikes with ADJUSTABLE heated grips,i would not have a bike without them now. the two previouse bikes were both B.M.W.& they worked very well[couldent fault them & i have industrial hand damage].i now own a H/D 883R,& after a couple of months use i could not live without my heated grips.two, options were open to me, H/D ones or aftermarket accessories type.i went for the H/D ones as i liked the look of the NOSTALGIC style ones that i picked[out of a range of six different styles]they are EXPENSIVE but look & feel good ,are ADJUSTABLE & work as discribed[THE BEST BIT OF USEFULL KIT I HAVE FITTED]i know this has been a long thread but i hope all the information together with the other con, tributions helps.tara for now, lollypop.

try this for a sideways swipe at the way we do things, your hands get cold due to your legs being exposed and the body losing heat from them causing the exstremities to reduce the blood flow, try a good pair of over trousers and see just how it affects your hands. beleive me no one suffered more than I did till I found out that strange fact, and I'd tried all sorts of gloves. I could open a bleeding glove shove with the glove's I've got lyiing around. then I got some thinsulate lined over trousers and now I dont suffer anymore . |
