| Chilly Willy...
.....Well hands actually. I do have a relatively decent pair of gloves, but after the WWP and some of this nippy weather I've come to the conclusion that they really aren't up to the job .Anyone got any GOOD suggestions for gloves and where to get them from for this particular brand of cold spell we're having at the moment , they musn't be too bulky and must allow feeling and movement so I can push all my Knobs and Buttons .Oh, yes, and warm is great, but if they don't keep you dry as well, then don't bother replying;) . |

| Re: Chilly Willy... ![]() ![]() ![]() Battery Heated Gloves: Ł32.95 (Reference #SG-Q500) Two types of gloves in this section - first, these clever, individually portable D-CELL BATTERY GLOVES then a similar product only with CAMOUFLAGE 'Mossy Oak' Effect which includes a hardened 'trigger finger', handy for marksmen and photographers. Apart from the obvious difference between the two ie the design and fabric pattern, the Warmthru glove opposite has a PUSH-BUTTON ON/OFF - with other gloves you must open the press-stud then remove and pocket the battery when your hands heat up then the reverse when your hands are cold - not very handy on the piste if you are using them as ski accessories. New electrically heated gloves were originally designed for commercial fishermen braving the icy conditions of the North Atlantic. Snowflake if they don't guarantee to be waterproof use waterproof mittens over them. You can get them in any motorcycle accessory shop. Last edited by BaZaź; 17-03-2006 at 02:55 PM. |

What are people's views on heated grips?

I always wear summer gloves as I dont like the bulk of winter gloves. Used my trailie through many a winter (80 mile round trip to work) and found that the hand guards worked a treat. They keep the wind off and give a wee bit cover. Dunno how hand guards would look on a Harley |

| Re: Chilly Willy... Have a pair of heated gloves for the MZ, for winter use, a pair of mitts over the top keeps the rain off for the winter, I don't use the Harley during the winter anyway, the MZ has a fairing that keeps the s***t off of me!

I use Hein Gericke gloves that have a seperate inside layer made of sealskin (not from baby seals but the same stuff as the waterproof socks). This means that when the outer layer eventually starts to leak, my hands stay dry and warm inside the sealskin inners. They are a little bit bulky, but are not too bad when broken in. I also use heated grips in the winter and combined with the Hein Gericke gloves, this keep me pinkies warm and dry even on 2 hour rides in the freezing cold. I have nerve damage to my fingertips which makes them particularly susceptible to cold, and would not be able to ride in winter without the right gear. Guy |

However the upside is that they are always fitted to the bike so you don't have that "should I / shouldn't I" debate on whether to take the heated gloves on a day when weather is a bit indifferent. It's great for those days when you start out in the sun with thinner gloves and then the weather changes or you stay out a little longer. They have two position temp control which is also invaluable. As above, when you jsut need some gentle heat you can use low temp or zap up to full power if it's really cold. The great thing about heated gloves or grips is that if you get on the bike with cold hands you can actually warm them back up again. A really good set of gloves won't help much in this situation. One thing to watch out for is that really thick gloves can actually make the heated grips work worse as the heat doesn't penetrate through as effectively! Some aftermarket gloves have problems with one hand being warmer than the other as wel. Not a problem with my Beemer grips but I ahve heard this from other makes.

A lot of people swear by Hein Gericke gloves. They look a bit dodgy though. I think they are called Pantheons (or something like that). Look a bit like lobster claws.
