| Re: Royal British Legion Riders Branch Sponsered Poppy Ride
Just a note to let those of you who have been kind enough to sponsor me, know, that I am away to France and Belgium tomorrow (Friday). I start out by meeting The Lord Mayor of Liverpool at 10.30 am at the Town Hall, who has asked me to place some wreaths at the Mennin Gate on behalf of the People of Liverpool. I will then be on my way down to Kent to meet up with the other lads on the trip, and on to Dover on Saturday. When I get back, I may post a brief report here, and let you all know what the total was. There is still time to sponsor me at my web page, and all donations will go to the right place. http://www.justgiving.com/raycooper Thanks again, and to all going away to a rally this weekend, be it Oswestry or eleswhere, have a good time and a safe journey. I arrived home at 22.35 hrs on Saturday 2.9.06 For those of you still interested in the ride, some stats are. 1. Total miles 1832 2. Total fuel £165.06 + 1 ltr Oil 3. Most miles in 1 day 499 from Brionne to Liverpool (last day) 10.00 hrs start out, 22.35 hrs arrive home, inc 3 hrs on ferry and stops on the way. 4. Visits to Ieper (Ypres)included Menin Gate, Hill 62 Passendale (trenches) Tine Cot cemetery. There was lots more but I don't want to bore the uninterested. For your information, I have raised over £600.00 for the RBL Poppy appeal, and I would like to thank those of you, including the anonymous person from this web site, who donated £50.00, for your generosity. It was a trip that I enjoyed, sombre, sobering and thought provoking at times, but I had a good time with a bunch of serving and retired forces lads who have no political aim other than to have a good time and raise money for a British Charity. Food for thought........... Ray |
