| MOT warning.
Just back from attempting to MOT the bike. Before you all snigger, it did pass! However, no certificate because the new computer system did not recognise the reg. number! Oh, well, said the tester man, just bring in the V5 and it will be fine, it happens all the time! However, I have to take the bike back as well for 'at least half an hour'. So, a warning to you all: take your V5 along with you when you go for the MOT test and avoid having to go back the next day. By the way, the sun was shining today and so was great for a ride but tomorrow when I must return, rain is forecast. Not good. Have fun, Andrew |

My bike was MOTd today. The test has gone all electronic!! The tester prints a check sheet from the computer and does the test completing the check sheet as he goes. The results are then fed in to the computer and the COMPUTER decides if you have passed and prints the pass cert. The cert has the usual stuff on it, reg, manufacturer, colour and expiry date. The bike details come from the DVLA database It also asks the tester to identify the model and choose from a list. If the tester doesnt know Harleys it could be anything. The pass is logged to the DVLA database and the police, armed with reg number readers, can determine if any vehicle has an MOT and/or road tax without stopping the vehicle. My tester said that the gizmo in the police car will read a number plate and audibly warn the accupants of the car that the number plate doesnt have valid docs!! Big Brother is watching? Nah!!! |

Got my 1st mot on the RK today and when I rang them they said to bring the V5 but not to worry if I didn't. When I got there he said because it is the first mot on the bike I did need it. I had it with me anyway..It passed no problems with the dustbin lid size numberplate velcrowed to the small plate. |

Something else to watch out for; not all H-D models are currently registered on the system. for instance, when I took the Ironhead a couple of weeks ago, it failed to acknowledge XLCH, and when we put XLH in it came up as the wrong years! The tester overrode it manually, so it went through OK; however, he tells me that this is not uncommon. For instance, he does a lot of MOT's for the vintage guys; first time he tried to put a Douglas through (and they're not PARTICULARLY rare) the system refused to recognise it. This is made worse if you have something which is very rare, end you have just put it back on the road after a long lay-off. One other point; it's a good idea to take your previous test certificate with you as well, to verify that the engine/frame number is on the system correctly.
