USA Headlamps

Excuse my ignorance and the stupid following question, just atribute it to the clocks going forward.

Thinking of buying a new headlamp and wondered if this was possible from the states.

By that I mean if I brought a H-D, CC or Zodiac product from a US dealer would it comply with DOT over here?

The worry being of course that the beam shines in the wrong direction so to speak, as we drive on the correct side of the road as opposed to our cousins from across the pond.

Re: USA Headlamps

Think you have answered yourself there. Yes it would be illegal here in the UK it would fail any MOT test because you are not lighting up your nearside. Just blinding oncoming traffic.

Re: USA Headlamps

I'm confused now... my Sportster is international spec, same as I believe are supplied to Europe, and according to the handbook the only way to adjust the headlight is by loosening it on its mounting and turning it.

Re: USA Headlamps

On older models there is a pattern on the headlight glass. I don't know about the latest 05/06 glass they do look clear no pattern at all. Maybe someone can tell us if these are adjustable for left or right hand nearside kerbs. Phil where are you?

Re: USA Headlamps

Its my day off. I`m having a well deserved lie in!
Are you talking about the headlamp body/shell, the lens or the bulb?
The (usually) chrome headlamp shell is universal, go ahead & get it. The bulb is universal. The lens, or bulbholder is market specific.
P.S. I`ve been telling them they drive on the wrong side here for years, they won`t listen.

Re: USA Headlamps

Also Bootneck I have seen some USA headlamps over hear that do not have a small bulb under the main headlight bulb. That's another MOT failure.

Re: USA Headlamps

Thanks to all for the advice.
I think common sense dictates that I shall forgo any savings on this occasion and purchase one from over here rather than from our cousins across the pond.
