this is serious in that I saw it with my own two eye's eventually mocco have conceded that their range of dunlop hd branded tyres might not be as good as the label reads. after being amused at a tall stack of nearly new hd dunlops, I commented at the waste. look at this my mate said, guess what now they have a screaming eagle tyre So how is the general customer base supposed to react to that? most of the so called se products are items that should have been on the humungously over priced bike when they first bought it? but the clever marketing people replace them with cheap inferior crap to maintain mocco's already huge profits. people have to buy these products and before they realise it they end up paying for their pride and joy twice, just to get the thing they thought they were buying in the first place. ok so the same is true of the tyres? you might think... well just stop and think about it for a moment...... tyres.. one of the most essential safety related items on a bike, YES??? already its well known that due to the difference in European roads to american roads, that oem tyres are not rated as being suitable. have mocco gone too far this time? giving added performance is ok when describing a cam but, additional performance regarding a tyre is safety critical not a luxury but a necessity. I say they have gone too far, by releasing their se tyre they admit by default that they oem tyre isnt up to standard. |

| Re: HD's new tyre's I'm with you in spirit on this Simon. ![]() Current Dunflop OE tyres are ADEQUATE in the way that OE brakes used to be adequate (just... ) before they introduced dual piston calipers. Personally, I am happy riding with an obsolete engine (in fact, I LIKE that) but I am less than happy riding with substandard anchors and rubbers. |

| Re: HD's new tyre's
It was OE Dunlops on my V-Rod that gave way on a mildly moist (as Clarkson would describe it) road in Jan '05. No other bike I have ever ridden would have gone down like that and I always blamed the rubber. I never felt the Dunlops gave anything nearing a surefooted, confidence-inspiring performance in the wet, and in the dry never got much better than simply okay. The replacement Avon Venoms have transformed the bike in every way making it the bike it should have been from the start. Rod Bod

Have to agree what everybody says about OEM dunlops fitted to new Harley's, they ARE sh$$$$te no confidence in their wet ability even when straight line breaking Being a tightfisted Scotsman thou' I was adamant that I was gonna get as much wear out of them as possible before discarding them for something alot better;) They've done about 5000 mls since last year and still plenty meat on the rear but the front is about done now. Gonna have some Avon Venoms or similar fitted before headin off to Barcelona in June Wacko |

i just changed mine for conti tours as i wasnt happy with them at all. i just need to try them out now, but i have to repair my bike first, as the guy who fitted them dropped it off the lift!!!! i noticed though that in the zodiac and cci books, the dunlops are quoted as performance tyres with outstanding wet and dry grip!! dan |

Three different sizes available: 19 inch front 40554-04, 16 inch rear 40555-04, 17 rear 43197-04A. I had a look at them, they just appear to me to be a gimmick to promote sales, softer compound, different tread pattern. The original equipment tyres leave a lot to be desired, but they are just regular Dunlops, personally I am a big Metzeler fan.

I must admit the original Dunlops fitted to my Dyna did little for my conidence. I don't mess about and it takes a bit to scare me however a couple of roundabout slips was enough for me to change to Conti's. ;) Well pleased now although they do wear quicker. This is a small price to pay for the extra confidence I get. I agree with ST's comments why do HD need an SE tyre, because they want to corner the market further people will buy them even though the std tyre should sufice

I can only add my limited experience My sporty used to have the original H.D ones and I had several scary moments, even in the dry, have had Avon venoms on for the last year, and I just feel so much safer, and now when I blat around the leafy hertfordshire country lanes the only thing that stops me getting my knee down is the foot pegs. they totally transformed, the bike and my performance. oh and they are white walls so they look the nuts as well.
