If you want to be entirely accurate, the Rocket 3/Trident engine was originated by Triumph engineers at Meridon in the late 50's early 60's. The BSA version was typical 'badge engineering' of the time.

Re: Surrey Harley-Davidson

You want to spend your money subsidizing, a dealers “neon lights and Polished wooden floor etc”, that’s your concern”, Yes their nice and caring when their workin’ to get your cash, but the cash is there motive once they’ve got it, their business is done.

Try going to a “Boutique” HD dealer and try bartering for a discount on somyhing like, C.C.or Zod!ac prices,- it won’t happen.- But you go to a small indi, & their falling over themselves to give you a good price, service and backup.- and they do it with a smile.

Given the choice of Surrey HD, W@rz, or Riverside, (all a similar distance) I know where I’ll spend my money every time.

I decided some time ago that they weren't getting any more of my money. I've got fed up with waiting months for stuff to be ordered in, and warranty issues to be sorted out. And one guy in particular on the parts desk was pretty unhelpful and had a rather snide and superior attitude.

Their service charges were ridiculous, something like 60% higher than Shaw. That can't have helped their business.

I'm planning to fit chrome primary and cam covers, possibly rocker covers too, and was originally going to get them to do it. We're talking a fair amount of money here, and I was willing to spend it at Surrey, and pay them to fit the stuff, but their poor level of customer service put me off. I decided I'd do it myself, and take it to Quick Rick's for the stuff I can't do (cam gear bushings, dowelling the pinion bushing).

"Don't perform and your gone"? Well, if you perform very badly you deserve to be gone. I'm sorry that people are losing their jobs, and there were some nice people there, but overall they didn't deliver.

Are Dockgate 20 any good? I might go there in future when I absolutely have to go to a dealer.

I have brought most of my stuff from the states for obvious reasons, however recently started using DG20 again for small fiddly bits and dammit, bloody excellant service. Even got a 10% discount on one occasion for no apparent reason.

I found Rob from parts very helpful (the Canadian fella)
They say they will ring you back and low and behold they actually do, whilst won't use them for servicng when like you I can use Rick I have been well impressed with thier parts service.

Thanks Bootneck, I'll give them a try. There're a couple of bits that I want that I've only be able to find in the Drag Specialities catalogue.

thats not the entire story, the rocket 3 and the trident were developed together.
the T150t was a 4 speed with verticle engine & fishtails,
the T150v same with 5 speed & cigar pipes
the Rocket had a 10 degree sloped engine as did the T160.

The T160 was 5 Speed too, electric start and cack hand gear shift, I had one of the very last T150Vs which was fitted with unmachined castings for the L/H gear change and T160 carb set up...
Oh and they were all made at the BSA factory!

I wouldn't argue about what eventually happened but the Trident engine started out on the drawing boards (literally) of Triumph Meriden, that makes it a Triumph in my book ;)
