Switzerland - are loud pipes a problem?

We're going off to Switzerland in July and have been told by a couple of people that loud pipes are a problem. Someone said last night that they had heard of someone being turned away at the border. Someone else that you get on the spot fines.

Now we don't know how true this all is or if it's all chinese whispers.

We're both running stage 1 with vance and hines pipes (road king with slip on mufflers, and dyna with big radius).

Anyone know if this is gonna be a problem?

Re: Switzerland - are loud pipes a problem?

I have been twice through Switzerland on my FLSTC with Slip on mufflers the 1st time and the 2nd time with V&H two into one, and never had any problems.

I suppose it also depends on how you ride your bike, if blatting through villages then you may well get stopped, but if riding sensibly no problems.

Your biggest danger area is if you are riding through Germany ( Munich ) there you will def get a tug and possibly more problems depending on how loud your pipes are

I done the Swiss thingy too. Just as Big-john says dont go thrashin through little villages or ride like a demented bank robber in built up areas.

Its like Germany, they can fine you real heavy if you ride like a pratt.

Ive got fairly noisy V&H jobbies and never even got a look.

You will have to pay for a motorway pass at the border though.

Ah.. we're doing Germany too! We don't generally ride like idiots so hopefully we will be ok then.

Just wondering.. has anybody here had any contact with Federation Clubs in Switzerland or Germany? A person "on the inside" so to speak might be a way to find out more.

I have ridden & mixed with FHDCE Europe Clubs for many years especially Germany.

The test piece for any german riders is Munich as I have already stated, if you can ride in Munich without any problems then you won't have any problems in Switzerland.

You won't get any more from another fed club, except as has been stated don't ride like a twat.

Re: Switzerland - are loud pipes a problem?

Thanks for the advice.
We'll do our best "non-twat" riding on holiday

We went to the Harley Davidson Club Germany 35 years anniersary rally earlier this month on bikes with stage 1 and loud(ish) pipes, followed up with two weeks of touring. We had no problems whatsoever.
