insurance and tax

i still havent collected my new bike as its now not able to be taxed! the date for my insurance to change over is for weds 21 because the dealer told me to put then, but they are now telling me it cant be taxed until the 21st! the dealer told me they could tax a bike if the insurance was due to start within a week? the thing is, my policy swaps from my current bike at 0001am on weds, so i will be riding my current bike uninsured while they tax my new one.
can it be taxed before then or do i have to wait til weds and risk being done for no insurance on my current bike.

Re: insurance and tax

Can't see what the problem is? If the dealer as given you a reg No, tell your insurance company when you are picking the bike up and at what time. Get them to fax a copy (send you one as well) of the cover note direct to the dealers who should then arrange for the registration docs and tax for you. The tax should arrive in the post about a week later although it will be backdated from the 1st June.

Re: insurance and tax

It should not be a problem if you ring your insurer and ask them to change
the time to say 12am wednesday
Cannot see the problem with the tax as it will start at the begining of the
month anyway.

Re: insurance and tax

i have a certificate of insurance at the dealers now saying it starts at 0001am on weds morning, but when they took this to the tax office, it was refused saying that because insurance didnt start til weds, they wouldnt tax the bike until then. im still insured on my sporty until midnight on tuesday, but if i cant pick up my softy until weds, im going to be riding an uninsured bike on weds morning. its just a real pain in the arse!
the dealer said she will go in on monday and try again, but it may not work. thing is as soon as i get to the dealer to pick up the bike i can ring insurer and get them to bring the cover forward, so if its on monday or tues im fine, and i wont be uninsured, but if its weds then i will be.

Re: insurance and tax

If you are not transfering the tax from your sporty to your new bike. As far as i'm aware most new bikes leave show rooms without tax discs as most people start their insurance when they pick the bike up anyway. providing the dealer fits a dealer disc in the holder you should be okay! Its then up to the dealer to arrange the tax for you and send it on, besides, what's the matter with the dealer going to the PO first thing Wed morning and picking it up before you get there?

Re: insurance and tax

the tax on my sporty runs out at the end of the month, and they are giving me 6 months free.
if its not sorted by weds morning i will tell them to go to the post office and get it or i want a free stage one for the hassle, lets see what they say to that!

Re: insurance and tax

hmmm, starting to get the feeling im being messed around here. i just called another hd dealer who i have had good dealings with in the past and they said that the dealers have their own insurance to tax bikes with so its all ready when the buyer picks up the bike. so why was i told i had to have my own insurance before they could tax the bike???? im starting to wish i had gone back to sycamores instead of silverstone now as sycamores have always given me good service, its just that silverstone is much closer now.
anybody else had probs from this dealer? im just surprised at how much their service has changed from me walking into the showroom saying i wanted to buy, to now that they have been paid, its alomost as if they are saying we've got your money now sod off!!!!
