do different makes work better or worse on different bikes? ie, do contis work better on a sporty or avons better on a softail etc?

I use Battlaxe on both my Sporty and Triumph - luverly and sticky for them bends!

i had contis on my sporty and they were great but now ive just got a softy im gonna have to get used to dunflops again! a few burnouts may be in order to get rid of some of the rubber!!!

Good question, as My softail is ready for new tyres any advice would also be appreciated...at present I have Harley Ditchfinders

Avon Venoms for Softails, stick like excrement to a Duvet. ;)

As Bruno says, Avon Venom is the way to go - they give confidence in all conditions, although Metzelers also have many fans on this site.

Dungflops are not as bad as some make out, but are made of a harder compound than a true European tyre, so do not perform as well in the wet. Dry handling is fine until the rear squares off, although that applies to all tyres. Dunlops deliver durable mileage, often above 12k for a rear.

Don't burnout your rubber if you really don't like them - sell them as 'nearly new' on ebay and recoup some of your investment. There is ready market for partly-used rubber.

i have to agree avons for me,ditch the dunflops before they ditch you

Use Avon Venoms on the Heritage at present and they stick fine. May try Metzler when i finally get round to sticking me new wheels on. Mostly because the one on the new front wheel is a near new Metzler and i can't throw things away.
