This is very eloquently put Bear, it's everything I wanted to say and did'nt cos I did'nt want to offend those who love Sporties and lots do and would never change.

But for me........the thrust and agility of the 1450 engine in the Dyna is everything I want..... But I aint ridden the bigger boys toys so I am limited on my knowledge. (it's cos my legs won't go over and reach the pedals

£1200, jeez, I thought £550 was quite a lot!

What do you need: slip ons, say £200, SE A/C kit £90, or preferably Rev Tech's hop up kit (their version of the discontinued #29008-90A) say £70 and an a/c cover £40, and a slow jet £4. Maybe a couple of quid for a length of hose for the breather? Call it £320 and you're done. Under £300 if you use the SE kit.

So is the £550 for someone to fit this stuff? Tell you what, pay me £250 (or £900) and I'll fit it for ya.

Re: Is it Worth it??

its the dealer charges that bump it up. on my new softail they are quoting between £900-1500 depending on which V&H pipes i use. im going to do it myself. i can get the parts for about £500 i reckon, so its half the price of a dealer.

Rob,

I personally wouldn't do anything at this time of year. Wait until after the end of the autumn when you are almost bound to get a better deal. In the meantime you can try a few different bikes and do a lot of thinking. The price of servicing and conversions is often cheaper in the winter months if you decide to take that route

Correct! I'm only thinking at this stage, as you say, good time to try etc. If I do change up I won't be buying until maybe November or so.

Sportster Stage One is still iro £500 - £550

Yours was more because it's a big twin and it's FI rather than carb.

Re: Is it Worth it??

Sorry to be late replying to this thread, only just seen it.

I started years ago with a stock 883 sporty, then had stage 1 done (only about £300 then). Stage 1 made it a little sharper.

A while later I had a 1200 conversion done and the SE ignition fitted which helped the motor rev out. Definitely a LOT more go but also a LOT more vibration.

After I'd had the Sporty for about 4 years I got fed up with dead hands on long runs and traded it in for an 02 Dyna Superglide with stage 1 and SE PRO 2 into one exhaust. LOADS more torque and smooth!!

the Dyna was six months old with only 2500 on the clock and with the stage one already fitted was £1000 less than a new stock Dyna.

If I were you that's definitely the way to go, get a nearly new one with stage 1 and some goodies already fitted. save a packet.

Since then I've added SE heads, SE cams and 1550 big bore. Can't afford to change the carb so it's running the stock carb jetted out to 195.

Goes REALLY well!!

Re: Is it Worth it??

i had a 1200 sport and went to a 1450 super glide sport fxdx, bigger version of sporty but more grunt and better for two up rides, sporty was way to small.
as for stage 1 ibought bits myself then got local indi to fit, cost me £200 inc service etc and was done in few hours, pays to shop around for bits, pipes off ebay, check ebay shops for carb or injection kits, custom chrome, guernsey harley davidson etc, then buy bits and get local indi to do,no rip off stealers

Re: Is it Worth it??

A dyna would be the best bet if you go two up a lot. my sporty doesn't seem to like pillion and the suspension is wanting, by the time youve spent money on upgrades your gonna be near the mark of a decent dyna, possibly more IMHO
