speed cameras

A freind of mine has been done for speeding. I've had alook at the picture it's been taken from a forward facing camera and its in black and white you can't tell who is riding and what colour the bike is. Do you think she should pay up or fight it?

Re: speed cameras

I imagine its from a mobile speed camera . When the camera is triggered the copper turns round and writes the reg number down ? Thats what I have heard happens anyway.I assume his word is good enough?

If that is the case and they admit to that I would consider contesting it.

Ask them why they have sent it when there is no reg' plate showing. Ask for more proof.

cops hanging around cameras? what a curious thought.
I suppose its better than hanging around on street corners, or gathering near the park bench's

It takes the word of two coppers who believe a vehicle to be exceeding the stated speed limit.

It takes two officers to give evidence of speeding if no other equipment is used to measure vehicle speed.

If other devices are used one officers word is sufficient.

As for contesting it, good luck, if the basis of your defence is that the officer is not honest, and I were hearing the case my first thought would be..........Why would the officer lie, does the officer know the defendant and even so would the officer risk loseing their pension, job and face a custodial sentence to frame a speeder............No, I dont think so either.

But good luck anyway as I dont like camera devices either.

Re: speed cameras

I think this may have been asked before but I cant remember.
Do I choose my sat nav speed or my van speedo as an accurate indication.
and which one is likely to get me a ticket;)

Re: speed cameras

Bill,

your sat nav speed wont accurately measure your velocity over the ground as you roll up or down a hill, that will only come from the rotational speed of your wheels and/or gearbox depending on where the drive is taken from and will be indicated on your speedo. As far as I am aware the speed indicated on your sat nav will not be accepted as evidence.

Re: speed cameras

from what i understand, most vehicle speedos are set slightly high, so if your going at an indicated 60, you are probably going at around 56.
gps is pretty accurate on the flat, thats why they use it on speed records, but going up or down hills is different.
