| Re: Road King vs Softail ?
having read all the above comments and having to agree with most of them what is there left to say? My thoughts are follow, Bill both Baz and myself are in the 6'2" department or there abouts (depends whether Baz or sometime Babb's as he sometimes prefers to be known, at some weekends in private, is wearing his stilettos or not )anyway we both possess roadkings, and the occaisional glide. so yes we both find them easy to ride, warning they are a tad top heavy at the standstill comfort? thats what you make of it. stability thats the point, unlike the dyna's the gearbox isnt the mouting point for the swinging arm, although the mount is part of the swing arm pinnion shaft. but all in all it a traditional style of bike proven and works. weigh that against soft tails and what do we have there? style before function. the suspension is limited on a soft tail, basically its a trade off trying to look like a hard tail and still retain suspension, in my opinion ok for posing and thats about it. and yeah like Baz ive done thousands touring on it. |

You aint helping people. I was kind of hoping that you would either talk me out of the King or convince me to ditch the Train in favor of the King. I was afraid of this . I really dont want to get rid of the Train, and I kinda want a King. The Train is my first Harley and I dont think I want to part with it. It looks like I will have to aim to try and keep the Train and get a King. That means I'll have to wait till 2008, no way I can afford that next year. Still at least it will give me time to talk Jane around to the idea. Now where did I put that winning lottery ticket;)

Banquo - how do you check the suspension settings and how do you adjust? Of course the beauty of the range is that there is something to suit most tastes - if function were everything then I suppose we would choose the ultra!!

Get down the dealers and try one for a day, that's a good starting point!

| Re: Road King vs Softail ?
Used to own a Road King and then swapped for a Deuce (which I lowered and made the suspension much harder). I wouldn't dream of riding the Deuce any sort of serious long distance but rode the King to Barcelona & back in all weathers without a grimace. Personally I wouldn't swap back to a King but that's mainly personal preference over the looks & not as much time to take a bike on a long hike. If I was contemplating regular long distance riding I'd take a King or an EGlide any day of the week - or maybe buy an R1150RT (oops - I already did - it stuffs any Harley on the handling & most of them on comfort - engine is a right old nail tho!).
