Re: Road King vs Softail ?

Took an 07 RKC out for a test ride today.

Handles very diffrently to my NT. I think above 20mph it is much easier to ride, slow speeds and the NT wins. Mind you that may just be me, takes time to get the hang of any new bike.

I was very surprised about the increased engine breaking, which was something I hadnt considered. I guess that may be the increased engine size, but if I had to guess its probably more to do with the longer stroke.

The 07 bike had a little extra get up and go, a little more torque I thought, but not a great deal of difference between it and my NT.

Loved the cruise control, but I am a bit gadgety anyway. I am sure I wont use it often but could prove handy on motorways where I sometimes find the old speed tends to creep up a bit over time.

All in all I liked the RKC, but I hated the heel toe shifters, and the handlebars. I thought the handlebars were too narrow and put my hands too close to my knees.

Dealer offered me £8500 for my NT, which was better than I expected from a dealer. I'm going to try and sell privately for £9000, as I figure that if the dealer will go £8500, they are going to sell it for £9500+. Its got about £2000 of extra stuff plus original pipes and air box.

As soon as the NT sells I'm going to order the RKC.

Did the dealer tell you that the pipe and slippers will cost an extra £1000. ;)

Interesting, I just traded in my Sportie for a new Heritage. Dealer offered what I thought was a good price - something around 4-500 less than maybe I could have got privately. Then I thought that I'd have had to pay to run some ads, undoubtedly be knocked down by the prospective purchaser, get the usual frustrations of time wasters and tyre kickers, all to make maybe 2-300 more.

Couldn't be doing with the hassle and traded.

Might be worth your while doing some negotiation with the dealer then WB: like, you can make a grand off my bike, but I can get another 500 selling it privately. Increase your offer to £9000 and you can still make £500. Keep it at £8500 and you don't make anything...

By the way, on previous subject, I was reading Bike magazine in Tescos last night (as you do when you already bought BSH...) and saw they had an article specifically on buying and selling bikes on eBay. Might be of interest to you...
