Food For thought

About 1530ish on Sunday afternoon i was sadly at work. I had been out and about of course and seen numerous bikes on their way to Brighton, most seemed to be riding sensibly, which is always a good thing.

However heard over the radio that a biker had been overtaking dangerously near to Arundel train station, misjudging the speed of oncoming traffic he had ploughed straight into the front of the vehicle coming the other way. Members of the public tried to resuscitate but was pronounced dead shortly after paramedics arrived.

Now whilst it is sad that a biker has died, even whilst riding dangerously it is sadder for his wife and three young children.

I know i have taken risks before and luckily for me i have not come to any great misfortune, as my age steadily grows and the number of children gradually spirals out of control i thought to myself what if that was me!!!!! or the wife!!!!!!!!!!!!

sobering thought!!

so as i responded to a number of blue light runs yesterday evening i was confronted with really congested roads and cretins on bikes white lining directly towards me. I was possibly travelling only a little faster than the traffic at this time for fear of hitting the loons on bikes who had plenty of time to give way but seemed to leave it until the very last second!

I have to say I have always thought that car drivers were a liability but the riders coming back from Brighton yesterday were just plain dangerous, and how more didn't have terrible accidents i really do not know. the bikes were predominantly sports bikes but there were also a lot of fools on cruisers some of which were Harleys

Not wishing to preach as i am not terribly rightious but be careful and think of those at home before riding like an arse.

on a brighter note enjoy the last bit of nice warm weather before winter grips the UK

Re: Food For thought

well said that man, working at the ferry terminal ,the gateway to some of the best biking roads in scotland,we have on average 100 bikes going over to play every sunday, predominantly sports bikes ,more often than not, one o them boys aint coming back, only the other week ,there was 4 fatalities, and every other week in the summer months its just as bad, now a lot of these accidents dont involve any other vehicle, its all down to rider error, most of these folks are guys coming back to bikes after a number of yrs abscence, and they are jumping stright onto fireblades, aprilla's ducati's and suzuki's and bikes of that ilk,not really knowing the power thats beneath them, surely we the biking community especially manufacturers and dealers could do something to help this be it, extra tuition or track days for folks who would like to learn how to handle these bikes just my two bob's worth;)
