Accident

I'm back to the forums after a 2 week spell in the hospital. Here's the story . . . .

On the bank holiday I was riding my Harley near my home and encountered one of those traffic islands that are there to restrict traffic flow into town. We assume that they are there to help make the roads safer but in this instance, it made it far more dangerous. I had the right of way yet I had to yield to 3 cars who thought they could make it around the island (into my lane) in time before I rode past.

As the first pulled out I thought, "ok, a little silly but ok", then came the second driver and I thought, "idiot, what was he thinking, can't he see me?". At this point I'm already backing off the throttle. Then came the third car and I thought, "what a wanker, this idiot is truly blind".

And then came the fourth car . . . . this time I had no time to think anything other than how to avoid hitting f***ing idiot. I moved left and braked a little but as a result I hit the loose gravel that had built up from months of people driving round this island, wobbled the back end of the bike and dropped. Hard. On my knee.

End result, I've crushed my knee and now I have to be careful in airport metal detectors due to all the screws and plates that now hold my knee together. No other damage to me and the bike has very little, just a few scratches and a broken brake pedal. Not even worth claiming for as the deductable will be higher.

I am now seriously considering a local campaign to remove these traffic islands as they cause more harm than good. Aprat from my accident I have had loads of near misses on my bike and car at that same location and everyone I know has had the same. Apart from the gravel from the island, there is loads of plastic from broken indicators there, clearly I'm not the only one. My wife even witnessed a similar accident to mine the night after she first visited me in hospital.

Re: Accident

Damn, that sucks

Glad you are relatively OK

A good place to start in such a campaign is your local newspaper. Especially if a group of residents are speaking as one..........

BUMMER! So sorry to hear of your misfortune. But the guy in the 4th car surely stopped to make sure you were okay, right?

Hahahahahaha, you are kidding right? The guy never stopped most likely cause he knew he was at fault. Sadly, the guy behind him never got his number plate.

Re: Accident

Timbo2, Bad news yes, but you're in one piece.

Put a structured complaint direct to your MP, photos, sketches, bullet pointed description and your costs etc.

This approach if carefully constructed can yeild some decent results.

Hope you're starting to feel better, take Care.
