Question Road King mini tacho - easy to fit?

As title really - official HD item.

Mechanically and electrically challenged myself, so will not 'go there' unless it is no more difficult than changing plugs!

Re: Road King mini tacho - easy to fit?

It's not rocket science but you'll need to remove the headlight nacelle, fuel tank and attach the mini tacho to the steering lock cover by drilling two holes. The HD kit is pretty extensive but the instructions can at times be somewhat confusing, that's where this site comes into it's own

It's certainly more complicated than changing plugs but your looking at about a £150 bill at a dealers, I'd say go for it and enjoy the learning experience and if you get stumped just ask on here.

Re: Road King mini tacho - easy to fit?

What model/year?

Pre-04 RPM pick-up connects easily to the existing wiring, usually a little pinky one, then power and ground.

04 and up, RPM pick-up connects (again easily) into the serial data in an empty slot in the back of the speedo in the wiring block.

Specifics, need specifics.

As Mr Wolf said, hardest part is drilling the holes in the fork lock cover, i.e in the correct position, if you have one, a fork lock cover that is.

The kit should come with all wiring connections needed, you might need to buy some extra wiring to lengthen whatever it is you need to do depending on model.

You could fit an aftermarket item to the handlebar for about £50ish, simple to connect ( to a 96 RK ) as well.
