| Bill Ivy memory... July 1969 video
From a french movie, Continental Circus, the starting grid at the 1969 July East German 500cc GP... Bill died the day before after his practice crash on the 2 stroke 4 cyl Jawa... They lay a reef at the place he should have started the race and Agostini's frozen to death. http://www.bike70.com/videos/BillIvy130769.WMV Patrick |

Some great footage there Patrick. Weather looks like Cadwell park in spring time. Chilly |

Excellent stuff Patrick. I always wondered who Bill Ivy was. There was always a meeting at Cadwell Park which is very close to where I live called the Bill Ivy Trophy Meet, don't know if it's still held but it used to be one of the 'must see' meets. Used to get people like Derek Chatterton (local rider, known as the King of Cadwell as he always used to win there), Roger Marshall, and Ron Haslam riding in it. Cadwell was where I first saw Sheene, Mick Grant et al riding. Great little circuit, my abiding memory as a long haired spotty youth was waiting outside Barry Sheene's beat up old caravan for him to come out & sign autographs, which he duly did always with a smile & a Gauloise! Happy days. FBB

Thanks for that, very cool. Bill's a bit of a hero to me as he was a local lad and went to the same school as me. They used to give an annual award in his name. If you are interested in him Alan Peck wrote his biography titled "No time to lose" published by Motor Racing Publications. |
