Re: Imported.......

I put them in my new Samsonit drag bag and put them on the plane, US cost $1200, UK price £1200.

Smiled politely at the customs man in the airport. Hey Presto.

You are gonna get charged around 30% in charges for a bigger package like that unless you are creative. It also depends on the shipping agent. UPS and DHL bend you over and enjoy themselves when they deliver. Robbing ba5st4rds.

If you do import try and get the vendor to use USPS, then the UK delivery is done by Royal Mail who still make admin charges but they aren't as excessive.

You will pay import duty and VAT on the total shipment value including shipping. In addition to this you will pay a customs handling fee to whomever clears the package through customs. You can ask the supplier to declare the package as a warranty return or gift or sample. This is illegal , it's called tax evasion. It really annoys me that dealers here are constantly pilloried for high prices, just consider the additional costs we have and the taxes we HAVE to pay.

Don't try to save money by not having it insured. Avoid using USPS - if you have to claim on thier insurance you might as well send the forms to Santa.

Obviously I'm biased, but consider the problems you could face if you have a problem or warranty claim with your chosen supplier in the USA. Any savings you make will quickly evapourate in phone call costs and return postage costs.

You could , of course, ask one of the Independant dealers who support this club with advertising and rally prizes etc for a quote. Or alternatively ask your chosen supplier in the USA if they would like to advertise in the Quinn and donate raffle prizes.

That's my rant over, nothing personal intended.

Re: Imported.......

UPS is a wonderful service. Order stuff from say J&P and have it 3 days later.
However they collect the VAT and import duty for the customs and being an efficient firm you always have to pay.
The USPS/Royal Mail are altogether much more inefficient and usually forget

Re: Imported.......

Had some pipes sent over from the U.S. a while back and the seller was more than happy to mark the packing 'Samples' or 'Returned under Warranty', I can't remmeber which but it saved having to pay at this end.
